Tummy Tuck

We all wish we had a flat tummy to make us look fit, firm, and sleek in our clothes. Unfortunately, weight gain, lack of exercise, pregnancy, and age can take their toll on the abdomen. A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) is an aggressive surgical procedure that removes the fat and excess skin and sometimes tightens lax muscles in the abdomen by way of a horizontal incision across the lower abdomen.

The tummy tuck is done under general anesthesia and requires an average of two weeks "down time." The length of time for full recovery varies greatly, depending on the extent of the abdominoplasty and the general physical condition of the patient. There is "instant gratification" to be missing that tummy immediately after surgery, but it usually takes several weeks to months to see the final results.

The results of a tummy tuck can last for many years if there is no significant weight gain or subsequent pregnancy. If the effects of aging or a subsequent pregnancy cause you to become dissatisfied with your tummy, you may consider having an additional procedure to restore the youthful contour.
